The Aus­tri­an phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal com­pa­ny Phar­mazeutis­che Fab­rik Mon­tavit GesmbH was found­ed in 1945. In 1968, the com­pa­ny devel­oped and patent­ed its flag­ship prod­uct – a ster­ile catheter­i­za­tion gel – CATHEJELL. Cur­rent­ly, a ver­sion of Cathe­jell is avail­able that con­tains the anes­thet­ic agent lido­caine and the antibac­te­r­i­al agent chlorhex­i­dine.
